I just wanted to share a little something with y'all. The other morning I was sleeping peacefully until my alarm went off at 8. Now, I know for most of you, you don't even need an alarm to get up at this time but I do! Plus, I had stayed up til wee hours of the morning playing Super Mario Bro. so, 8 o'clock was pretty early. Of course I hit the snooze. At 8:05 my phone rings and it's work. Do you think I answered?? Heck NO! I just knew they wanted me to do something and whatever it was, it could wait til later. Again, I roll over and go back to sleep. The alarm/snooze routine goes on for a little while and at 8:55 work calls again! Ugh, will they leave me alone? This time I turned the volume off. I finally get out of bed, dreadfully, and I'm ready to go 15 minutes later. I'm pulling out of the garage and I feel my phone vibrating in my pocket. Are you kidding me? I was pleasantly surprised to see it was my sister-in-law. We laughed and chatted about our silly little lives while I drove to my (least favorite) patient's house. How I wish I could have just stayed home! After talking with Serena I called work to see what was so urgent that they had to call me at 8am. I'm almost to the patient's house when I find out that the patient that I am on my way to see, the one that I got out of my warm, cozy bed for, is in the hospital! She's not at home so I don't have to see her today! Unbelievable! If only I had answered. It just never occurred to me that they were wanting to save me a trip. I turned around, headed home and thought, "I think I'll go to Hobby Lobby."
As I was lying in bed that night, I started thinking...as I always do! Isn't this how we treat God sometimes? We hear Him calling and we just know that He's going to want something from us so, we ignore Him. He then, being God, calls again. It still isn't the right time for US so we shut Him out and think, "I'll talk to Him when I'm ready. It's just not a good time for me, I'm busy doing something else He wanted me to do, I'm just too tired." If I had only answered the call from work the first time, I could have turned the alarm off, instead of hitting snooze, went back to bed and not drive 26 miles when I didn't have to. Sometimes, when God calls, He's really not wanting anything. Maybe He wants to save you from a road that you think you have to travel but you don't.
When God calls, He might say, "Go and do," but He might also say, "Stay here and rest awhile!"
Happy Easter!
Oh how true Kristi. Thanks for sharing this today. Kim
ReplyDeleteSo true! I think we sometimes go through hard times because we forget to listen for His voice. We think we have all the answers, so we end up learning the hard way. Thanks for the reminder. Love ya!
ReplyDeleteSo well put Kristi! To many times we "all" send God to "voicemale".
